Volunteers

Saturday April 7, 2018

Key information:

  • Block/stop traffic if runners are coming
  • Let runners know which way to turn; make sure no one gets off course.  Be LOUD.
  • Roads marked with florescent orange tape arrows at all turns
  • Police car will lead each race
  • Police car or fire dept. vehicle be the tail, so clear the intersection after you see the “tail” vehicle
  • Some of you are at two intersections on the Half Marathon course.  You should have plenty of time to get to the next intersection before seeing the first runner at the second intersection
  • See below chart for approximate times of when you will see your first and last runner at each mile.  Then look at what mile you are at on the map for estimations.  Try to be at the intersection or aid station at least 30 minutes before you will see your first runner for last minute preparation.  Remember that several roads will be blocked that morning.
  • All volunteers should be in place and ready at 7:00, unless in the latter part of the half marathon
  • Call me with any questions, 574-5539, bradandmelissa@cableone.net

Aid Station Directions

  • The 5-gallon jugs are 3/4 filled with water. Go ahead and add Poweraid mix to one of the dispenser jugs.
  • Add ICE to each jug to fill the jugs up.
  • Start filling cups. Only fill the cups HALF WAY! It is hard to drink and run with a full cup. Most runners pour out or throw away more than a sip of water.
  • Split your volunteers into two groups. Have the first set hand out Poweraid cups. The second group handing out water cups. It is important to yell out what you are holding as the runner approaches. Hold the cup out away from you to avoid getting splashed when a runner grabs the cup.
  • Cheer! Cheer! Cheer! Motivate these runners and show them some Columbus encouragement!
  • Try to pick up the cups on the ground and any trash. We want to leave the area clean.
  • As soon as the last runner passes someone will be there shortly to pick up all of your supplies.
  • After the last runner please empty the jugs for us.
  • If you feel like you are running out of water or cups Call Melissa (662) 574-5540 or Brad (662) 574-5539.
  • If anyone needs medical assistance please call the above numbers ASAP. Of course if it is an emergency do not hesitate CALL 911!
  • THANK YOU!!! Without volunteers like you we could not have a successful race! Feel proud of yourself because today you gave back to your community by serving others!! Have a blessed day!!
